In this section I elaborate on the importance of finishing touches when considering interior design ideas. There are articles on paints, wallpapers, accessories, accents and other ways to bring interior design ideas to life.
I get so much enjoyment out of adding little elements, altering existing ones, enhancing tired ones and creating the proverbial ‘icing on the cake’. The fundamental design is done and the structure is complete so this is the part of the project that really has to express what my clients want. The final flourish can make all the difference, whether it is in a family home or a formal office.
The design, appearance and atmosphere of a space need to reflect its purpose and it is the attention to detail that lifts it from being something average to being a design masterpiece. Many clients have personal items that they want to incorporate in their interior design ideas or display in a different way, and this is where my expertise and experience comes in. Fresh eyes provide design inspiration and I encourage my clients to see the details from a three-dimensional perspective and consider them in many potential but relevant contexts.
All of us have an artistic side, but some people just don’t have the confidence to express it. The best part of my job is helping clients realise their creative goals for their interiors, by using my helpful hints and tips to articulate and develop their interior design ideas.
It is such a pleasure watching texture, different materials, lighting and many other subtle elements bring an interior to life and it is these small details that yield the final result. Every small element I work with, including colours and accessories, is harmonised to develop a theme, create a statement or produce an illusion, and herein lies the magic of interior design.
