An Interior Designer’s Dream Project

As an interior designer I always find it thrilling when I walk into a commercial or residential property that is in dire need of a face-lift. Sometimes the property is just in bad condition, or very dated and sometimes it is the case that my client, despite wishing to, simply does not have the time to invest in creating their dream home from a property that obviously has potential. Either way, I never see a lost cause, only an exciting challenge on the horizon!

A Vision amongst the Chaos

This was the case recently with one on my clients. The property in question was a 1990s two-storey town house that needed fairly extensive reconditioning. As an interior designer it is part of the job to be able to envision the perfect end result even amongst all the rubble. We took the house down to its bare bones and started with restructuring the interior space by knocking down some walls, adding supporting joists and redirecting the flow by blocking up doorways in compliance with building regulations and planning processes.

Space to Breath

The whole house was then an interior designer’s dream project requiring complete redecorating and re-flooring as well as a reconfigured guest wing. The three bathrooms, plus the cloakroom and the kitchen were fully replaced. The result was the introduction of a new and beautiful, large open plan kitchen and dining area leading to a living space with wide double doors opening onto the garden, and a comfortable and pleasing home with one homogenous and cohesive style. The eclectic overall interior design plan utilized both upcycled and new furniture and furnishings, producing a fresh contemporary and airy feel while retaining a classic, understated and relaxed atmosphere.

The entire project was completed on time and exactly to the client’s specifications. This was a classic example of an excellent partnership between a client and an interior designer which resulted in the perfect home for the client’s needs.
