A master bedroom in a Huf Haus

We were invited to design the bedroom in this unique Huf Haus in Wiltshire.

Huf Haus is a German company that creates deluxe modular houses with contemporary post-and-beam architecture. Huf Haus design, manufacture and build the home for the buyer on their chosen plot of land. Buyers can have whatever style and layout they like as long as they stay within the tradition of post-and-beam architecture. Huf Haus homes usually also feature a lot of glazed windows, so they are light and bright. In the UK, Huf Haus really gained in popularity after one featured on Grand Designs in 2004.

We were excited to take on the challenge of designing the master bedroom in this unique home.

Our client had fallen in love with the Nocturnal Fornication wallpaper design from Divine Savages and wanted to use it in the room. The problem was that the construction of the house meant the number of beams and rough render used on the walls made using wallpaper in the traditional way impossible.

To create the look she wanted, we came up with the idea of using the fabric version of the design and stretching it over thin, light, handmade wooden frames. These fabric panels were then installed over the bedroom walls. The panels didn’t interfere with the integrity of the Huf Haus structure or damage the fabric of the building, and the client had the Nocturnal Fornication design she loved.

Divine Savage’s iconic print features tropical palms, a star strewn night, jungle foliage and big cats in a jewel toned palette of deep blue, teal and emerald green!

We made a divan bed and large headboard upholstered in indigo velvet to fit into the wall panels, and velvet cushions in the same Divine Savages design.

The windows also created another design challenge, with their high pointed aspect into the roof.  We installed Luxaflex® Powerview Duette® motorised pleated blinds on the upper windows.  These specialist made-to-measure blinds are energy-saving, room darkening, insulating and come in a range of colours.

Underneath we installed Silent Gliss curtain tracks in the windows, and made luxurious satin wave curtains for these. Wave headed curtains have a special flat tape sewn into the heading, which means the whole length of the curtain can be folded into an S-shape, creating a stunning ripple effect. Wave curtains give a contemporary and sleek look in a modern house.

The bespoke dressing table and chest of drawers were made by Alex Mint Ltd for Olson & Baker. The bespoke chest of drawers was made in walnut veneer, with brass painted inlay handles.

The dressing table was made of ebony veneer with mirrored fronts, black high gloss lacquered drawers and polished brass handles.

Lights were by Eichholtz, leading Dutch wholesaler of luxury design furniture.

The client was delighted with the luxurious room inspired by her dream Divine Savages design.
