Swinging from the Chandelier

The chandelier has long been a highly desirable item. A symbol of wealth and great taste; the bigger and glitzier the chandelier, the better. And while still very popular, crystal chandeliers have taken a bit of a back seat, and now we’re seeing more modern, stylized interpretations hitting the design top-ten lists instead. I’ve rounded up some of my own personal favourite chandeliers.

Tom Dixon’s Etch Mini Chandelier in Brass

etch-mini-chandelier-gold-on_1_1I love this effortlessly stylish piece by British lighting designer, Tom Dixon. It has the somewhat magical quality of being subtle yet simultaneously attention seeking. The on-trend brass finish and sculptural shape makes this chandelier an ideal centrepiece and a guaranteed talking point in any home.

Urban Chandy

Rustic chandelier

Built by hand using reclaimed materials, Urban Chandy offer a very distinct alternative to the traditional chandelier. Pictured is the wonderful Reclaimed Wood 18 Pendant Rustic Chandelier, made using salvaged barn wood and featuring a mix of brass, antique brass and bronze sockets.

Although based in the US, shipping to the UK is available – though you are liable for all customs and duty fees.

Decanter Chandelier by Lee Broom

Decanter Chandelier

This whimsical chandelier features five hanging decanter bottles suspended from twisted fabric flex. It’s technically a crystal chandelier too, since each decanter has been hand cut from lead crystal. This light has heaps of vintage glamour and wouldn’t look out of place in a dining room or above the cocktail cabinet.

Onsjo Chandelier, IKEA

IKEA

The LED tubes of this IKEA chandelier ‘create exciting lighting effects that look like…fireflies flying in the air’. A highly-affordable piece at just £45, IKEA proves yet again that you can experience innovative design on a low budget. I really love the organic, almost free-flowing shape of this piece. It’s perfect for the bedroom or a nursery.
