Autumn Winter 2014/15 Trends in Colour and Style

I like to take seasonal trends with a pinch of salt. Fashion is fleeting after all and it can be hard to keep up; once you’ve adopted one style, another has taken its place. The same goes for home interior design.

There’s no need to redecorate your home every six months to stay in style. You can take inspiration from the latest trends and find ways to make them work permanently. I love mixing new trends with existing classics. For example, reupholstering an old wingback armchair or upcycling furniture can be a budget-friendly way to try out new styles.

Current Colour Trends
Every year designers and journalists reveal their predictions for coming trends – these are influenced by both personal taste and insider information. A few of my personal favourite trends for Autumn Winter 2014/15 are:

Experiments with clashing: bright colours and no rules, this trend is a free for all. This look sees tropical Tutti Frutti colours blend with pastel hues for a ‘more is more’ effect. It’s an uplifting, fun and playful way to decorate your home. Interior design should be a personal reflection of you, so this trend is ideal for outgoing creatives and colour lovers.

Navy blue: gorgeous, rich indigo is making waves at the moment. This is a brilliantly classic colour which gives it the permanency so many of us crave. In home interior design, navy works as an accent and a statement. Splash the colour all over the walls, or choose a few indigo accessories to complement your current scheme. Neon was big last year but its popularity is already waning, I can’t see the same happening to trusty navy.

Tartan: Perfect for autumn and winter, tartan is a warm and rustic textile. It’s available in a number of colour-ways but I personally love the traditional red and green or neutral black and white. A splash of tartan looks incredible in any home whether an ultra modern loft or country cottage. Although it is making something of a comeback this year, tartan never really goes out of style.
