Creating a Spathroom: Part 1

The bathroom is a haven of tranquillity, the one room in the house where you can truly be alone… unless you have a cat of course. And yet many of us are stuck with bland, basic bathrooms and not the spa-like experience we deserve.

Well, I’m here to change all that. I’m on a mission to transform all needy bathrooms into something much more decadent. A luxurious sanctuary where one can soak in the bath at the end of a hard day or even enjoy an at-home sauna.

In this 2-part series, I’ll be showing you how you can create a beautiful ‘spathroom’ worthy of its name. You don’t need a colossal budget or huge amounts of square footage to make more of your bathroom, just a little vision and my expert guidance.

The Essentials

Today, we’ll be starting with the essentials. Every bathroom needs, well, bathing facilities. If it’s time to upgrade that 1980’s avocado-green suite, you’ll be pleased to hear that your options are numerous.

Bathroom suites can now include huge walk-in waterfall showers, Hammams, saunas, Jacuzzi baths and hot tubs. Even small spaces can indulge in rainfall showers or claw foot baths. Sinks come in all shapes and sizes too, so you’re no longer limited to the practical but stylistically unimpressive pedestal basin.

The essentials are the building blocks of your new spathroom. I recommend choosing facilities that make you feel good, provide an atmosphere of calm and relaxation and are pleasing on the eye too. It’s also important to take into consideration your family’s needs. If you’ve got a herd of young children you might never find time to jump in the Jacuzzi, but a nice big bathtub will make for happy bath times.

Tune in later in the week for part two!
