This contemporary five-bedroom home sits high on the hills of Bath, with spectacular views across the city. The clients, a retired couple, had relocated from a much-loved period property and wanted to bring the warmth and character of their previous home with them, while creating an interior that felt entirely at home in its new, contemporary setting.

Calm, light and airy, the house is defined by generous glazing and clean architectural lines. The brief was to combine the clientsrsquo; existing furniture with carefully chosen new pieces, lighting, fabrics and accessories, creating a cohesive scheme that softened the contemporary architecture without competing with it.

A gentle palette of warm neutrals, soft greens and blues runs throughout the house, punctuated with occasional flashes of rust and yellow. In the kitchen, Little Greene Rolling Fog Pale creates a soft, natural backdrop, while the cloakroom is painted in Farrow & Ball Pale Powder. The main living and dining rooms are given warmth and texture with Thibautrsquo;s Shang Extra Fine Sisal in Soft Fern, paired with Farrow & Ball Pointing.

Existing sofas from Heal’s have been refreshed with bespoke cushions in fabrics from The Yarn Collective, alongside rugs from Crucial Trading. Bespoke shelving and a sideboard provide a strong architectural element, while the lighting scheme combines ground-floor pendants from The Original BTC with table and floor lamps from Birdy Fortescue, OKA, Healrsquo;s and The Original BTC. Neutral wave curtains using Zoffany Lustre keep the rooms light and understated, allowing the views beyond the glazing to remain a key part of the scheme.

The bedrooms introduce a little more pattern and colour, with wallpapers from Cole & Son and Dado Atelier complemented by blinds and cushions in fabrics from Ian Sanderson, Fermoie, GP & J Baker, Anna French and Romo. Paint colours like Farrow & Ball Skylight, Stirabout and Pointing are soft and warm to complement the rest of the house.

The result is a home that feels peaceful and contemporary, but never cold. Existing furniture sits comfortably alongside new and bespoke pieces, while gentle colour, pattern and natural textures bring warmth and personality to the clean-lined architecture. Outside, Vincent Sheppard furniture continues the relaxed feel, creating comfortable spaces from which to enjoy the spectacular views across Bath.
