{"id":629,"date":"2015-02-06T11:25:07","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T11:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/?p=629"},"modified":"2021-02-21T14:44:04","modified_gmt":"2021-02-21T14:44:04","slug":"maison-et-objet-round-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/interior-design-trends\/maison-et-objet-round-up","title":{"rendered":"Maison et Objet Round-Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Top ten interior trends for 2015<\/p>\n<p>I recently spent a cold January weekend in Paris at Maison et Objet &#8211; Europe\u2019s largest interior design fair.\u00a0 It\u2019s a key date in every interior designer\u2019s diary as this huge biannual event sets the interior design agenda for the year and beyond.\u00a0 Here\u2019s my round up of the key interior design looks to emerge for 2015\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Modern Seventies is everywhere\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The inspirational era of choice for most of the big brands was the Seventies. The look was everywhere!\u00a0 It\u2019s a sophisticated, contemporary take on the decade with long low sofas, big round pouffes, smoked-glass coffee tables, thick softly coloured rugs, cream shagpile carpets, low lighting and dark woods. It\u2019s a sexy urban feel inspired by fashion designers like Celine and Missoni. They were everywhere. As were crystal drinks decanters, tumblers and glassware out on display. Another tongue-in-cheek nod to the disco era. Buy new or scour vintage markets for an original.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-633\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/cocktail-cabinets.jpg\" alt=\"cocktail cabinets\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/cocktail-cabinets.jpg 751w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/cocktail-cabinets-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For metals; brass and copper are still hot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warm metals were everywhere with brass and copper the materials of the moment.\u00a0 It was on everything from lighting, furniture, tableware, accessories and lamps \u2013 and both brushed and polished finishes looked modern. It looks understated, sophisticated and sexier than the paler shades that have dominated our interior design pallet for so many years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-635\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Greys.jpg\" alt=\"Greys\" width=\"700\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Greys.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Greys-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-636\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/shades-of-grey.jpg\" alt=\"shades of grey\" width=\"500\" height=\"670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/shades-of-grey.jpg 716w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/shades-of-grey-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Moody new colours<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Soft greys and dark tones were set off with a fresh new pallet of darker accent colours like forest green, deep coral, dark teal, burnt sienna, petrol blue and mustard yellow giving a moody sophisticated feel.\u00a0 The colour palette for 2015 also saw warmer tones of pinks, reds and oranges coming through unsurprisingly in a year that has Dulux\u2019s naming \u201cCopper Blush\u2019 and Pantone choosing Marsala (a deeper copper tone) as their colours of the year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/70s-trend.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-630\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/70s-trend.jpg\" alt=\"70s trend\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/70s-trend.jpg 718w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/70s-trend-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wicker, wood and bamboo chairs are the must-have piece<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hanging chairs and armchairs in natural materials like rattan and grass were a key trend at Maison.\u00a0 And there were plenty of homages to classic Emmanuelle armchair with its high oval backrest and peacock pattern. Floor-to-ceiling walls of plants, hanging baskets and groups of plants in interesting pots were ways of making a statement with plants. Fitting with the 70s vibe there were kilims, Moroccan lights, ethnic wooden sculptures and Arabesque tiles everywhere. Print was a big story with paisley, geometric, chevron and ikat prints making an appearance on fabrics and rugs. It\u2019s a modern hippy-de-luxe look that embodies a certain kind of 1970s glamour (think Talitha Getty in her kaftan on a Marrakech rooftop).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-642\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Ethnic-vibes.jpg\" alt=\"Ethnic vibes\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Ethnic-vibes.jpg 718w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Ethnic-vibes-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>9) \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0A love of nature<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Skeletons, feathers, driftwood, interesting stones, bone, coral, horns, shells, leather, animal skins, leather and skulls found their way into many of the big designer room sets. These beautiful treasures were carefully curated to form changing and dramatic displays. From Missoni Home to Designer\u2019s Guild, they give a big two fingered salute to the pastel and neutral mid-century patterns which have dominated for the last few seasons.
