{"id":6238,"date":"2023-09-24T20:55:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-24T19:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/?p=6238"},"modified":"2023-10-02T20:00:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T19:00:47","slug":"georgian-house-redesign-first-floor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/clairs-projects\/georgian-house-redesign-first-floor","title":{"rendered":"Georgian house\u00a0redesign: First floor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With its quirky layout, this&nbsp;characterful&nbsp;Georgian house&nbsp;has&nbsp;a more intimate and cosy feel than a typical&nbsp;townhouse&nbsp;of the period.&nbsp; We wanted the design to be sensitive to the period yet contemporary in feel and, most importantly, a comfortable home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the first floor there is a magnificent living room as well as the principal bedroom with en suite bathroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hallway is painted in Farrow &amp; Ball\u2019s Slipper Satin, a chalky off white. The stairs, spindles and handrail were painted in Farrow &amp; Ball\u2019s archive dark brown, Salon Drab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Roman blind in Rose Uniacke\u2019s linen in Stripe III adds gentle pattern with its wide slim stripe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The large living room provides an elegant space with plenty of light coming from the dual aspect windows. To make the most of the generous and airy room we painted the walls in Farrow &amp; Ball&nbsp;Joa\u2019s&nbsp;White,&nbsp;a&nbsp;light and contemporary taupe&nbsp;with the merest hint of black pigment. The ceiling was painted in Farrow &amp; Ball Wimborne White, a just off-white, and the cornice and woodwork were in Farrow &amp; Ball Pointing &#8211; a&nbsp;warm and delicate&nbsp;neutral&nbsp;named after the colour of lime pointing used in traditional brickwork.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"910\" height=\"607\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/800.jpg 910w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/800-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/800-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The windows were dressed in a combination of curtains and Roman blind in&nbsp;Tropical Clouded Leopard fabric by Scottish designers&nbsp;Timorous Beasties. This heavily illustrative design features a leopard sitting in a wonderfully colourful floral scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large bespoke modular corner sofa by\u00a0Olson &amp; Baker\u00a0in Linwood\u2019s textured boucle fabric in rich terracotta\u00a0Carnelian 11\u00a0fills the large space without dominating. An array of cushions by Conran Shop and Timorous Beasties softens the modular shape and adds decoration with their striking patterns and images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facing the sofa, a&nbsp;Noomi Swivel Lounge Chair by&nbsp;award-winning Danish designer,&nbsp;Susanne Gronlund&nbsp;in mocha&nbsp;Boucle&nbsp;with a black base provides a contemporary and comfortable extra seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/799.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"910\" height=\"607\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/799.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/799.jpg 910w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/799-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/799-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The coffee table is the&nbsp;Leith&nbsp;square&nbsp;table in European&nbsp;Oak&nbsp;by Pinch Design.&nbsp;It has sculpted, faceted solid timber legs, and a chamfered profile that continues around the underside of the table to deliver a light and striking silhouette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Freya three-door&nbsp;sideboard&nbsp;is also by Pinch Design. It&nbsp;features classically proportioned paneled doors, which open to reveal timber-lined interiors. The cabinet&nbsp;has&nbsp;integrated cable access in the base to&nbsp;hide&nbsp;cables&nbsp;from view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above the sideboard are two&nbsp;Circa Lighting Go Lightly&nbsp;sconces in a charcoal finish with linen shades.&nbsp;&nbsp;The oak floor lamp has a Jim Lawrence&nbsp;cylinder shade&nbsp;in&nbsp;Cream Killowen Linen, and the bespoke central pendant shade is from Heathfield Lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carpet in the living room, landings and stairs is Crucial Trading\u2019s Treasure carpet in Sea Salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flatweave Frencie rug in a rose colourway is from European online rug seller, Benuta, and grounds the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The large master bedroom was painted in light shades to make the most of the natural light and higher ceilings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/803.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"910\" height=\"607\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/803.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/803.jpg 910w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/803-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/803-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The walls were painted in Farrow &amp; Ball\u2019s Green Ground, a pale fresh green. The ceiling was painted in Little Greene\u2019s Rolling Fog Pale, the picture rail and woodwork was in Farrow &amp; Ball paint in Skimming Stone \u2013 a warm light grey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raw metal and brass bed from the Wrought Iron Bed Company was complimented by&nbsp;a pretty  decorative quilt and cushions from Wicklewood, and&nbsp;two&nbsp;Scumble Goosie Empire Bedside Tables&nbsp;painted in Brick Lane Blue. The two antique chest of drawers and dressing table are from from Beau Nash Antique &amp; Silverware in Bath and give depth to the room alongside a colourful and fun House of Hackney&nbsp;Phantasia Velvet Bottomon&nbsp;in&nbsp;Emerald Green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/805.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"910\" height=\"607\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/805.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/805.jpg 910w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/805-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.clairstrong.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/805-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Roman blinds were made in Linwood\u2019s tweed-style Freya fabric in Biscuit with a tassel trim to add interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lighting was provided by a combination of complimentary lights. Graham &amp; Green\u2019s black and brass pendant works well with similarly shaped Mo single wall lights with black hoods from Pooky Lighting.
