In Georgian society, most entertaining took place at home and the rooms on the first floor were entertaining spaces. The bedrooms for the family would have been on the floor above. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this 5-story Georgian house, the family uses the rooms for the master bedroom, ensuite and a study. Originally, of course, there would have been no bathrooms in the house. Despite the popularity of spa towns during the Regency Period, it was commonly believed that bathing was unhealthy, and most Georgians bathed once a week or sometimes fortnight without removing all of their clothes. There was no waste water system and so wealthier households used earth closets or chamber pots, which were emptied by their servants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Master Bedroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In this beautifully proportioned master bedroom the walls were papered in Sanderson Spring Leaves in Dove with its pretty overlapping leaves and floral sprigs which created an elegant look without dominating a scheme. Woodwork was painted in Wevet by Farrow & Ball. The mirrored wardrobe doors were removed, and new panels upholstered in Romo\u2019s Dune in Plaster installed to soften the look of the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement superking bed was the Rivas bed from Soho Home upholstered in burgundy velvet.  The existing ottoman footstool was upholstered in Jane Churchill\u2019s Jago in pink, and we sourced a Koldrum stool in boucle fabric from Liang and Eimil to sit at a bespoke dressing table for a stylish contemporary look. The Silent Gliss curtain poles carry the double pinch pleat curtains in Ice II velvet by Kirkby Design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We commissioned a bespoke dressing table and bathroom cabinet from Radiance Furniture. The dressing table was in black ash, black lacquer and maple, the full height bathroom cabinet in macassar ebony with maple interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the centre of the room, the Montferrat Leaf Chandelier by Vaughan Designs, features distinctive sculptured leaves and was inspired by a French antique. The table lamps are Pooky Sphynx in white marble and brass with shades in dusky pink velvet from Jim Lawrence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ensuite Bathroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the ensuite the walls were painted in Calluna and the woodwork in Wevet from Farrow & Ball. We installed a new stone effect luxury vinyl floor from Amtico in Opal. This mellow blend of neutrals creates an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity. The bath is from Bette with a bespoke Maccassar walnut veneered plinth at the bottom and fittings from Dornbracht. The towel rail is from Hansgrohe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the study the walls and skirting were painted in Mizzle from Farrow & Ball, with Wevet on the woodwork and ceilings. The office chair is the iconic Vitra Eames chair with a soft pad in camel leather. The carpeted floor is the ever popular and hardy faux sisal flooring by The Unnatural Flooring Company by Capitol Carpets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
