Christmas has become a bit of a consumerist black hole in\nrecent years. From Black Friday in November all the way to the New Year Sales,\nwe\u2019re encouraged to buy, buy, buy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong, I love buying gifts, supporting small\nbusinesses, and shopping at the Bath Christmas Market, but this year I\u2019d like\nto tone it all down… just a little. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started researching the ways I could make Christmas just a\nlittle more sustainable, so the strain on my wallet \u2013 and the planet\u2019s\nresources \u2013 wasn\u2019t so great. Here are some of the fantastic solutions I\nstumbled across…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buy Less<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most obvious solution is to just… buy less. This goes\nfor everything; clothes for Christmas events, gifts, decorations and food. Give\nyourself permission to lay off the spending where possible. Make a pact with\nfriends to meet up for dinner instead of buying each other a gift. Re-wear that\nsparkly dress you only wore once last year. Don\u2019t buy so much food it gets\nthrown away in January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are LOTS of ways you can spend less, and maybe let go\nof some of the stress of the season in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DIY Christmas\nDecorations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas decorations are a big one; every year I seem to\nend up with a few more (plastic) baubles. This year I\u2019m saying not completely saying\nno to new, but I am going to try and make some of my own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To avoid having to spend money on pricey craft supplies, I\u2019m\nlooking to Scandinavia where they use natural, seasonal foliage to decorate\ntheir homes. I can collect some of this from my garden and nearby woodland; fir\ncones, evergreen branches, holly and rosemary sprigs are easy pickings. For\nanything I can\u2019t forage, I can head to my local florist to buy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll be following this\ntutorial<\/a> for making a wreath, and using any leftovers to create sweet\nlittle arrangements around the house. And maybe even a centrepiece for the\ntable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
