Creating a\nspace that looks good, encourages healthy habits and<\/em> motivates you is no easy feat. So in this two-part blog post\nI\u2019m sharing just the essentials: the furniture and accessories I think everyone\nneeds in their home office. Last week we started with the big ticket furniture\nitems. This week we\u2019re looking at those smaller, but no less important,\naccessories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing\nthe right lighting for your home office will make the world of difference in\nyour comfort and energy levels. Inadequate lighting can cause eye strain and\nheadaches. It can also create a gloomy and uninspiring atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The right\nlighting, however, will protect your eyes during long stints at the computer\nand create an uplifting and energising mood. Adjustable, layered lighting is best\nfor the home office, so choose a mixture of ambient and task lighting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s easy to let your desk become a bit of a dumping ground\nfor paperwork, stationery, old receipts and random household objects but this\nonly serves to create a distraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to keep on top of the clutter, a desk organiser\nis a must. The letter tray pictured above is ideal for stashing paperwork,\nnotebooks, stationery and even a tablet. The classic Scandi design is practical\nand attractive without being too fussy and you can even completely pull out the\ntrays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re probably wondering why I consider a plant pot an\nessential home office accessory. It\u2019s because plants have a surprising range of\nbenefits beyond looking good. Numerous studies have shown that plants can\nreduce stress, increase productivity and boost creativity; they can also clean\nthe air and may even reduce noise levels. And they make your office a more\nenjoyable place to spend time in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to all of the above benefits, houseplants are\njust the right kind of decoration to keep the space looking lively but not\ndistracting. If you choose the right plants, they create interest and texture,\nbut aren\u2019t fussy or busy.
