Tom Dixon has designed for IKEA before, creating a\nunique collection of \u2018hackable\u2019 furniture. Now the duo is working together to\nencourage city-dwellers to grow food in their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will include a range of gardening products and\ntools (no doubt beautifully designed) that allow those who live in cities to\ngrow food, herbs and medicinal plants indoors. By launching this collection\nIKEA hope to empower people to live healthier and more sustainable lives,\nwhilst building greater awareness of where their food comes from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If more\ngreens were to be grown in homes, it would have a positive impact on the planet\nwith fewer transports, lower water usage and less food waste.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ikea.com\/gb\/en\/\">IKEA said<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company will be announcing the project at May 2019\u2019s RHS\nChelsea Flower Show in London with an installation showcasing their unique\nmodel for growing plants in cities. The collection itself is set to launch in\n2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the collaboration, Tom Dixon said: &#8220;Although we are not traditional\ngarden designers, we think we can demonstrate ways that anybody could make a\nsmall difference and broadcast not only the beauty but also the functional\nimportance of horticulture through both traditional knowledge and the latest in\ngrowing innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can\u2019t wait\nuntil 2021, fear not. This isn\u2019t IKEA first foray into urban gardening. They\nlaunched the Krydda and Vaxer systems (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ikea.com\/gb\/en\/products\/indoor-gardening\/\">available here<\/a>) in 2016 which use hydroponics to grow plants and\nvegetables. The system requires no soil and no sunlight.
