Why? Because you can make really beautiful, genuinely bespoke pieces for your home without spending piles of cash. It’s a cheap and cheerful way to spend an afternoon, and I promise it’s actually fun and not just a stressful, mess-making nightmare (unless you get the kids involved, but that’s on you). Anyway, without further adieu, here are three DIY projects I’d love to try this month.

Mini Rope Coil Baskets

These colourful little containers are perfect for storing stationery, makeup brushes and jewellery. They appear to be quite easy to make and only require two materials; rope and embroidery floss. Once you’ve got the basic method down, you can get creative, trying all sorts of sizes and shapes, or dyeing the rope. Find the tutorial for this project here.

Hanging Wall Organiser

This minimalist wall organiser is seriously stylish and highly adaptable. Change the size, colour and number of pockets to suit your needs. I’m contemplating making one for jewellery and sunglasses, and one for stationery and craft supplies. You do need more serious tools for this project (a power drill and sewing machine), but these can be hired or borrowed from friends. Find the full instructions over here.

Concrete Letter Paperweights

These mini concrete letters were designed to be used as paperweights, but I can think of a million and one applications for them. This ridiculously easy craft simply requires mixing up cement (I’d recommend using this stuff because it’s designed for craft projects) and pouring it into silicone baking moulds. As with any other craft project, you can really have fun with this one, pouring the concrete into different mould shapes and sizes. I’m considering making some larger concrete letters for an industrial shelf display. Click here for the two-step tutorial.

Image: Clair Strong Interior Design I’ve resolved to do more crafting this year and I think you should join me.
