The world seems to have gone a bit Scandi crazy in the past few years, thanks to the widespread appeal of shows like The Killing and Borgen, and a resurgence in Scandi design. Personally, I\u2019m very happy to see Scandinavian design back in the limelight, particularly in the luxury interior design arena. Fresh, clean, modern and minimalist, yet somehow utterly cool; Scandi design is one trend I can never get enough of.<\/p>\n
The Godfather\u2019s of Scandi Design<\/strong><\/p>\n It wouldn\u2019t be an article about Scandinavian design without mention of a few of the designers and architects who influenced this trend.<\/p>\n First, Arne Jacobsen, an architect and designer best known for his simple chair designs. Inspired by world-famous Eames designs, Jacobsen created his own successful chairs, known as the Drop, Ant, Egg and Swan.<\/p>\n Hans Wegner is another furniture designer who made an impact on luxury interior design in Scandinavia. Wegner designed over 500 chairs during his career and his work helped make mid-century Danish design as popular as it was (and still is today).<\/p>\n Finally, Alvar Aalto, an architect and designer of furniture, glassware and textiles \u2013 he insisted on creating \u2018a total work of art\u2019, focusing on the building and all of its interiors. He truly was a master of luxury interior design.<\/p>\n What *is* Scandinavian Design?<\/strong><\/p>\n Scandi design is simple, timeless and functional. It takes inspiration from beautiful settings; the tranquil lakes, mystical forests and mountain ranges of Scandinavia.<\/p>\n Scandi luxury interior design focuses on home comforts, cosy spaces and light, airy rooms. It combines classic furniture with light woods, cream accessories and light-reflecting elements. It\u2019s where being at home meets staying at a five star hotel.<\/p>\n It is by far one of my favourite trends at the moment.
