Pantone’s colour of 2017 is a bright, light and cheerful shade of green but the hues on trend for autumn are darker and warmer.

Cosy and enticing shades like emerald, olive, and a Scandi-inspired ‘evergreen’ are the most popular choices for autumn. They’re all versatile hues which work well with other colours to create a variety of bespoke looks.

So what’s driving the new interest in green? Well, aside from it being Pantone’s colour of the year, green is a soothing, serene colour that conjures feelings of peace, balance and harmony. It’s also deeply rejuvenating, communicating a sense of renewal and rebirth which is ideal for a new season. Finally, green connects us to nature and this seems to have become increasingly important in the digital age, especially for people living in urban settings.

Lively Lighting

The days are getting shorter and darker so we’re thinking about lighting. Lighting is a crucial component of interior design. It can make or break a space, so it’s important to get it right.

This season is all about having fun with your lighting choices and opting for something a little bit out of the ordinary. There are some fantastically unique lighting options on the high street at the moment and they can add drama and interest to any space. Of all the trends that have emerged this season, this one is my personal favourite.

Lagom Living

Image: Clair Strong Interior Design

We’re all familiar with the Danish cosiness concept of hygge but it’s the Swedish idea of lagom that will be making waves this autumn. Less of a trend and more of a lifestyle, lagom is all about moderation.

The Swedes are known for their effortless minimalism and the concept of lagom is no different. Lagom favours simplicity, sustainability and functionality over excess and opulence. The word translates to ‘just the right amount’ and the idea is to embrace that in all areas of life, from clothing and interiors to dining and socialising.

With Christmas (and the excesses that come with it) just around the corner, now is the perfect time to learn more about this liberating lifestyle concept.

You know the drill; new season, new trends.
