Maybe it’s a form of nesting, I’m preparing for the colder weather and more time spent indoors.

I think for a lot of us, autumn feels like a new beginning; as much as New Year or the arrival of spring does. So what better time to give your home a little refresh? To give it a lick of paint, re-upholster that old, tatty sofa or even just change the curtains.

For those of you planning on a little autumnal update, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite A/W 2016 looks. I hope they inspire you!

French wallpaper and fabric designers Casamance introduced a few A/W looks at 2015’s Decorex design show. This was one of them. I’ve seen this blue-green everywhere lately, including on the high street. It’s a brilliant hue for autumn; dark and brooding, yet still cosy and enlivening.

And you know how much I love a good pattern clash.

Bright orange is an autumn staple; it has been for as long as I can remember. I understand the appeal, it’s evocative of falling leaves and crackling fires – all the best bits of autumn. Personally, I prefer design that is a little less obvious but still gives a nod to its influences. That’s why I’m all for this modern burnt terracotta; a grown-up hue with heaps of character and surprising versatility. Thankfully, it’s a far cry from the garish terracotta of the past, a colour used in practically every restaurant and home!

If you want to create a space that is as inviting and cosy (yet still effortlessly stylish) as the one pictured above, texture is a must. It’s as simple as layering warm, enticing materials like leather, sheepskin, linen and wool all over the house. Stock up on blankets, rugs and cushions to boost the comfort level of your living room. And if you opt for classics rather than overly trendy pieces, they’ll last you for years to come.

Image: Clair Strong Interior Design As we move from summer to autumn, my mind naturally gravitates towards changing my home interiors.
