It’s a rich, retro-esque hue with surprisingly cool design credentials. Like olive green and fuchsia pink, it can feel a bit intimidating but in just the right doses it makes an impact like no other. I’ve rounded up some images to show you just how special this colour can be.

Fine Feature Walls

A feature wall is a great way to embrace a vibrant hue like mustard without feeling overwhelmed. It’s easy and simple to create an accent wall, so you can give your space an exciting update in just a couple of hours.

Radiator Revelry

If you’re going to do something as surprising as painting your radiator a colour other than white, you may as well go all out. This bold mustard really stands out against the deep blue walls; an excellent colour combination. Some paint manufacturers offer a spray painting service, which will save you the time and hassle of painting the radiator yourself.

Painted Doors

Another surprising use for bright paint; I love the mustard doors in this stylish Toronto home. With all white walls, the painted door brings a real sense of cheer and playfulness to the space. And since it’s only a small surface area, the colour can be easily changed.

Sophisticated Sofas

What do you get when you combine mustard yellow with a tactile fabric like velvet and an iconic shape? A near-perfect sofa. A worn vintage sofa lends any space heaps of comfortable, cosy charm. Can’t find the perfect vintage number? Try a new sofa like the one pictured above instead.

Simple Accessories

Another effortless way to embrace this beautiful colour is through the use of accessories. Cushions, throws, lamps and vases are all obvious options, but I also like more uncommon ideas, like a yellow painted claw-foot bath tub. Shop around for unique pieces to add to your space, or buy some paint and get creative with things you already have.

I hope the images above show you how exciting, dynamic and stylish mustard yellow can be. It’s a hugely versatile colour that pairs well with a wide range of hues, and it’s sure to add a burst of happiness to your home.

Mustard yellow is one of my favourite statement colours.
