It\u2019s time to crack open the Pimms, light the BBQ and break out the parasols because it\u2019s summer and that means one thing: al fresco entertaining. Today I\u2019m sharing my tips for making your garden soirees even more special.<\/p>\n

Light the Way<\/strong><\/p>\n

The days may be getting longer but if you want the fun to continue late into the evening, you\u2019ll need a little light.<\/p>\n

The right kind of lighting is important: you want it to be practical \u2013 keeping guests safe from trip hazards, allowing them to see their food, etc \u2013 but atmospheric.<\/p>\n

Candles, string lights and lanterns are all great options for adding a little flair to your affair. But for something really striking try an outdoor floor lamp, like this one<\/a> (pictured above) from Cox and Cox.<\/p>\n

Seating, like lighting, needs to be just right. Too little seating and some guests will be left standing all night, too spread out and people will find it difficult to mingle. The idea is to create a comfortable, relaxed vibe that encourages guests to linger.<\/p>\n

Now for the part we all love most: eating and drinking. Keeping guests well-fed and watered is your most important job as host. I usually provide the food, soft drinks and a large pitcher or two of Pimms but ask guests to BYOB. This takes some of the pressure \u2013 and cost \u2013 off you.<\/p>\n
