And it’s one you might have never expected: pink. Not a bubblegum Barbie bright but a soft, romantic blush. It’s as versatile as any other neutral, blending effortlessly with other hues and giving rooms a sleek, sophisticated vibe. It’s feminine, yes, but used in the right way, not overly so. I think there’s a very strong chance it will overtake grey as the ‘It’ colour of the moment.

Let’s take a look at it in action:

Pink and Grey

Don’t worry, grey isn’t out of the picture just yet. In fact, it’s the perfect companion for our newest neutral. Blush pink and smoky grey is a really popular choice. It can be soft and serene, playful and fun or moody and grungy. I’ve seen it used in nurseries, grown-up bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens. Add a hint of navy to the equation and you’ve got a winning combination.

Sofa Story

How cool is this palest pink sofa (top, above), styled and photographed by Danish photographer, Heidi Lerkenfeldt? The whole space is pretty enviable.

Brightly-coloured sofas are very on trend at the moment. But investing in something that might not be so fashionable in 12 months time is risky. Blush pink is an ideal middle ground. It might be trendy at the moment but it’s also a timeless colour that I think will look great for years to come.

Blush on Blush

Blush, like most neutrals, layers really well with itself. In fact, using the colour liberally in a space can be highly effective. In the room pictured above for example, blush bed sheets look stunning against the blush headboard/statement wall, and the copper pendant lamp almost reflects the colour again. White walls and accessories keep the space modern and fresh, and help veer the look away from garish. It’s a dreamy, high-end look that can easily be replicated in your own home.

So tell me, what do you think of the new neutral on the block? Are you all for this blushing beauty, or would you rather stick with grey?

Image: Clair Strong Interior Design There’s a new neutral in town.
