How to Make Space for Your Hobbies

If you’ve taken up a new hobby for 2018, or are planning on turning your pastime into a profession, you’ve probably come across the issue of storing all the stuff. Whether you mountain bike or macramé, most hobbies come with a bit of gear. And the usual problem is finding a practical home for the equipment. Today I’ll show you how you can make space for all of your creative or sporting endeavours, without compromising on style.

Look Up

Most sports equipment – including bulkier items like skateboards and bikes – can be hung on the walls. It keeps floor space clear of clutter, and when done well, creates an interesting display that reflects your interests. To prevent it from taking over your home, choose one designated area. A utility room or wide hallway is ideal because it’s also close to external doors.

A Creative Corner

If your hobby is more of the sit-down variety, consider dedicating a corner to your craft. All you need is some simple storage and a comfy chair for a space that is all yours. Open storage keeps everything within easy reach but again, also makes a nice display of your hobbies. Baskets are great for keeping the clutter at bay and your supply of beads contained.

Display Your Creations

If you make something awesome, don’t keep it stashed in a box; proudly display it in your home. You don’t have to be a world-renowned artist to earn some wall space. The great thing about displaying your own work, whether it’s paintings, pottery or something different altogether, is that you have a constant rotation of new stuff, so your home will always look fresh.

Take Over the Dining Table

If you need a large, flat surface on which to create your mosaics or finish your 10,000-piece puzzle, the dining table is probably your best bet. But most people also need the dining table for, you know, dining. To enjoy the best of both worlds, buy a large board to work on. This can be removed from the table when it’s time to eat, without too much disruption to whatever you’re working on at the time. Alternatively, create a table with a removable top like the amazing one pictured above!
