Bert’s Boxes: Modular Living Spaces

I’ve long been a fan of Bert & May. The company started out in Spain selling beautiful reclaimed tiles. Now they’re known for their handmade artisan tiles, engineered wood, natural pigment paints, furniture, bathroom fittings, kitchens and… modular living spaces.

From selling reclaimed tiles in the countryside of Spain to designing and building prefab homes and office spaces is quite a leap. Only Bert & May could have done it with such style and consistency.

Prefab homes get a bad rap, but with the booming popularity of both eco-friendly living and so-called ‘tiny’ homes, they’re having a bit of a renaissance. Bert & May’s designs certainly give prefab some kudos. You can choose from a spacious, light-filled two-bed box, an equally beautiful one-bed box, or my personal favourite: the office box.

The two-bed and one-bed boxes are designed to be permanent homes. They have been thoughtfully designed to provide comfort, space and luxury for an affordable price. Not only that, but they are of course, eco-friendly. All boxes are fitted with high-tech insulation systems and a green living roof to encourage biodiversity. You can also add on eco-friendly energy packages.

The most surprising thing about a Bert’s Box is just how luxurious it is. There’s no compromise. You can have floor-to-ceiling windows, invisible speakers mounted into the ceiling, retractable walls in the bathroom that allow open-air showering, and al fresco dining options. You even get to choose exactly how the space is decorated before it’s delivered. A full selection of Bert & May tiles, cladding, flooring and paint colours are available to choose from. This allows you to create a home or office space that is uniquely yours.

It’s probably fair to say that I’m a bit of a Bert’s Box evangelist. But with design this considered, it’s hard not to be.
